Functions of Omega-3
Omega-3 fatty acids are of great importance for our human metabolism. They are a building block of our cell membranes and keep the shells of the cells supple. They are also needed for the production of various tissue hormones. Studies show that omega-3 fatty acids strengthen the immune system and reduce inflammation.
According to the European Health Claims Regulation (HCVO), the omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) support normal heart function, normal brain function and normal vision.
Studies suggest that a higher intake of about 3g EPA and DHA combined has an effect on normal blood pressure and other blood parameters. This effect is also confirmed by the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and the HCVO (EFSA opinion: https://efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.2903/j.efsa.2009.1263).
