The Current Protein Raw Materials Crisis of 2026
3 min
Dear Peak Community,
Today, as always, we’d like to be transparent with you about the current situation on the raw materials market. At Peak, we’ve always stood for uncompromising quality at fair prices. However, we’re currently experiencing a historic surge in whey protein prices—the likes of which we haven’t seen since the company was founded in 1999—and we want to be open with you about this.
If you recall our blog post from 2025 about the whey isolate price increase at that time, you’ll know that this trend was already on the horizon. As early as last year, we detailed how persistently high global demand and structural changes in the dairy market are straining raw material availability.
The net raw material price for one kilogram of whey concentrate has risen by around 10 euros over the past three months. Since 2021, the price per kilogram of raw material has, in some cases, quadrupled.
The reasons for this escalation are multifaceted:
- The boom in weight-loss medications: To prevent muscle loss during rapid weight loss, patients are prescribed a very high protein intake. This is creating an entirely new, massive demand on the global market.
- The mainstream food sector: The traditional food industry is increasingly enriching everyday products—from quark and yogurt to ready-made meals—with whey protein.
- Rising demand in the sports sector: The overall demand from athletes is also growing steadily.

If you’d like to learn more about the protein crisis, check out our Peak podcast “The Protein Crisis Escalates!” Or watch the related discussion on YouTube (as of May 2026).Here at Peak, we strictly refuse to lower the quality of our products or cut corners on high-quality raw materials. Since we sometimes have to adjust the prices of pure whey products due to the enormous raw material costs, we recommend taking a look at the functional alternatives in our product line. These are significantly more stable in price:
Why do some competitors still offer even lower prices?
The reasons vary among competitors: Some are still benefiting from older, long-term contracts or are drawing on remaining inventory purchased before prices spiked. Others secure temporary terms through extremely high purchase volumes—or make compromises by relying on different or lower-quality protein sources.
One thing is certain, however: Sooner or later, the entire market will have to reflect the reality of current raw material prices. No one can escape this trend in the long run.
When you buy from us, you can be 100% confident that you’ll receive the following:
- Highest-quality ingredients: We never cut corners when it comes to ingredients.
- Distinctive flavors: Perfected recipes instead of cheap compromises.
- In-house production: Full control over every single step of the manufacturing process.
- Comprehensive quality controls: Maximum transparency and verified safety for every batch.
New highlight coming in August 2026!
We won’t leave you out in the cold during this market phase. Our product development team has been working around the clock for months on a new solution: As early as August 2026, we’ll be releasing a brand-new protein product specifically designed to withstand the current price hike.
Look forward to a brilliantly formulated protein with an outstanding nutritional profile and unbeatable value for money. Stay tuned—more details coming soon!

A Look into the Future
We very much hope that the raw materials market will settle down again sooner or later. After all, the laws of the market still apply: If prices rise too sharply, demand falls—and that’s exactly what will drive prices back down sooner or later. We currently expect the situation on the raw materials market to stabilize by 2027 and for prices to stop rising week by week—though we can’t guarantee anything at this point.
One thing is certain, however: As soon as price reductions become possible for our raw material purchases, we’ll of course pass those savings on to you as quickly as possible.
Thank you very much for your trust and loyalty—especially during these challenging times!
Best regards,

Nicolas Drapala, CEO
, and the entire Peak team
